Dr Etian Ngobeni is a Researcher at the Centre for Renewable and Sustainable Energy Studies (CRSES) at Stellenbosch University. He holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from Stellenbosch University, as well as a BSc and MSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Limpopo.
His research focuses on the intersection of sustainability, systems thinking, resource efficiency, and circular economy development, with particular interests in agrifood systems, renewable energy, and sustainable infrastructure. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates engineering, economics, and systems analysis, his work seeks to address complex challenges related to food security, energy transitions, resource management, and sustainable development.
In recognition of his academic excellence and contribution to the agricultural sector, Dr Ngobeni was named the South African Agricultural Awards Student of the Year in 2025 nationally, by the South African Agricultural Awards. He has also contributed to international initiatives, including the World Food Forum Youth Assembly and the BRICS Youth Energy Agency, where he engaged in discussions on sustainable food systems, energy transitions, and youth-led development.
